Took a 4-year W-2 hiatus (divorce legacy) to sell reverse mortgages, which ended about a year ago and now I’m starting to rebuild my business. I got engaged at O’Neill’s Pub on the Left Bank in Paris in 2007, exactly 400 years after the O’Neills fled Ireland to settle in Spain and France—talk about a reunion. In July 2001, Donnelley Marketing invited about 100 people to a 3-day retreat in Aspen, featuring discussions about database technologies and privacy issues, and the event was keynoted by Clinton. This gave me an opportunity to shake the hand of the person who signed the Credit Reporting Reform Act of 1996, revising the language governing “firm offers of credit.” This gave mortgage companies legal access to credit bureau data, where for the first time in history, they could target subprime borrowers with refinance offers—credit histories became not so private and you know how the rest of the story turns out. I’ve developed a piece of software for “Desktop Direct Mail” and gift certificate printing that I plan to start licensing this fall—the kids and step-kids are all doing great, life is really good and I’m looking forward to the reunion.
